Titanic
The Titanic was a huge achievement for history, being the largest ship in the world.
When it was released in 1912 it was known as the unsinkable ship. But as we all know that was
not the case when an ice berg hit the ship on its first voyage. After the ship sunk there was many
news coverages and reporting of what happened. Two big news reporting’s were The Daily
Review and Trenton Evening Times. These newspapers have some similarities and differences
from how the newspapers would handle an event like this today. To show how the newspapers
would handle it today, an event like the Costa Concordia Disaster that happened in 2012 would
help determine those differences.
The two newspapers The Daily Review and Trenton Evening Times released articles
about the Titanic sink age on April 15, 1912. The Daily review, published in Decatur Illinois
carried the important story of the sinking of the Titanic. The article said that aboard the maiden
voyage many significant people were aboard like, Mr. and Mrs. Vanderbilt, Mr. and Mrs. John
Jacob Astor, and Molly Brown. On the newspaper the main headline surrounding the sinking of
the ship was the fact that the telegraph had not failed, but prevailed since surrounding ships were
able to hear the Titanic’s distress calls. Although the others ships heard the distress calls they
weren’t able to get to the sinking Titanic in time to save the passengers. The newspaper also used
well-known facts of the Titanic. For example the reporters stated that the Titanic was the biggest
ship in the world. The reporters said that there was an unusual amount of icebergs in the area by
others ships. Many of the survivors were taken to Halifax where they would take the New Haven
Railroad. The newspaper showed a photo of the Titanic before it sunk but the majority of the
front page of the newspaper had other news like the arguments between the Republicans and
Democrats.
In the Trenton Evening Times, the article about the Titanic described that it was supposed
to arrive in New York the next day. The ship was a day ahead of schedule, indicating that the
ship was traveling at higher speeds then supposed to before hitting an iceberg. The Trenton
Evening Times also said it was the largest ship ever built and posted some of the important
