Should We Have Allowed the Three-Fifths Compromise?
The 1787 Constitutional Convention turned a huge rock for American history and slavery
in politics. It was during this convention that one of the most controversial issues in the United
States Constitution was added in Article 1, Section 2, which provides us with the Three-Fifths
Compromise. While many see this compromise as a negative, pro-slavery section, there are
numerous reasons to believe otherwise. The Northern states and Southern states would have
never come together, social progress and anti-slavery movements would have not been so
influential, and the political representation for the South would overpower the North. While
the implementation and usage of the Three-Fifth Compromise in the U.S. Constitution still
causes outrage, the United States would not be the same without it.
