Thinking Like a Sociologist
All of sudden, I found myself thinking as a sociologist when I go out and meet some
people here in Arizona, specifically at school, malls markets and entertainments spots. I
am an international student who came from different society and I do have way much
different rituals and believes than what I see here in the United States of America.
For me as a male and a student at Mesa Community College, I have many perspective that
reflects my personality. I have been in Arizona for three years. I have met many stereotype
of people that makes me think that all people here act the same. Later on, I found that the
way I was thinking was totally wrong. There is some people of this society are nice and it
is true the opposite also. My father was always telling me that to wherever you go, you
will find the sugar and the salt too. One time I asked myself one question, how will I get
into this society which has a melt pot diversity of people. The answer that was Interests.
This point guided me to make a lot of relationships, friends and groups. It does not matter
what are you, where did you come from are or what is your religion. As long the person
acts like as other people do, he or she will get into the locale society.
Sociologically, people get into each other through what does she like, or what does he like.
That means interests. In school as an example, how do I make friends? How can I learn
