Abstract
When compared to other countries, I always thought that things could not be that hard or bad for
Americans. I thought even the poorest were able to survive because, in my eyes, I used to be one
of them. I was wrong. A one-on-one interview with an addict younger than myself, and being a
part of the Narcotics Anonymous (NA) meeting, quickly changed my perception. That is when I
