COURSE DESCRIPTION
Course Description: This course examines, from a management perspective, mining
the value in the vast similarities and dissimilarities that accrue to today’s workforce as a
result of differences in individual backgrounds, abilities, socio-economic standing,
gender, educational attainment, culture, religion, age, and other differentiating factors.
Emerging styles of leadership among people of diverse backgrounds are explored as
solutions, not as problems.
Course Competencies:
Competency 1. The student will demonstrate the ability to describe and report basic
concepts, tools and information about diversity and inclusion by:
1. Analyzing the historic, socio-economic and psychological reasons for diversity
management
2. Evaluating the importance of diversity and inclusion for organizational
competitiveness
Competency 2. The student will demonstrate the ability to describe and evaluate
organizational and legal framework for diversity management by:
1. Evaluating legislation to accommodate diversity and inclusion
2. Evaluating structure and processes to foster diversity and inclusion
Competency 3: The student will demonstrate the ability to examine different diverse
groups by:
1. Evaluating history and demographic characteristics of different groups and
categories
2. Analyzing research on experience of various groups in US labor force
3. Analyzing relevant legislation for each group
Competency 4: The student will demonstrate the ability to analyze history and trends in
global diversity by:
1. Interpreting discrimination and differential treatment around the globe
2. Illustrating the need for broad range of diversity for international business
