4444 unread replies.4444 replies.
Align three (3) leadership traits identified by DuBrin with the article on Abrashoff How
did Commander D. Michael Abrashoff use these traits to effectively command the USS
Benfold?
Answer-Mike Abrashov took the hard challenge and was able to turn the worst performing Navy
ship into a hero ship in the end. He found poor management and a wrenched crew who were waiting
on the day they leave the navy. Through the leadership skills below he brought the boy’s audacity
back.
Explanation:
Active listening
First Mike Abrashov look into his crew. He made an effort to personally know each 310 of them. He
asked them 3 major questions; what they loved about the ship, what they hated and what they wanted
changed. He listened and realized he had one of the best crew with one scoring 1460 out of 1600 in
SAT. They earned his trust
Servant leadership
Mike brought in new changes. Every Sunday lunch was served on deck. Instead of officers cutting
ahead to eat first as the tradition was, everyone sat at the table and they served. He served as well.
This showed that they were there to make things work for the crew.
Crew Appraisal
Captain Mike Abrashov walked around the ship trying to spot someone doing something great. He
gave medals instantly. This is opposed to other officers who always tried to spot a mistake. This
importantly nurtured the culture of good will
Sense of ownership
It your ship! That was what Mike kept reminding them. He was open to accept challenge on any ideas,
procedure, traditions as long as it didn’t eat on the budget. The crew ended up owning the ship and
loving it.

Week 1: Case AssignmentBlunt Brittany
Complete Leadership Case Problem B – “Blunt Brittany” found on p. 52. Utilizing
the video titled, “Nurturing Leadership” and DuBrin’s traits and characteristics of an
effective leader, analyze the following questions:
1. In which leadership trait or characteristic does Brittany seem to need to most
development? Be specific in “why” she needs the most developmentgive
examples.
Answer-In which leadership trait or characteristic does Brittany seem to need to most development?
Be specific in “why” she needs the most developmentgive examples.
She needs to develop empathy and care characteristic in her personality as an emotional intelligence
personality trait is completely missing in her personality. She is outright blunt and that cannot be
called as assertiveness that assists employees to resolve their issues. She has a little amount of
empathy in her personality but she discriminates between employees and defined the needs of her
prejudiced thinking. Turning down the request of an employee to not have parental leave, or passing
personal remarks to employees when he approached to choose a software for working, reveals that
these requests can be handled properly and a more polite way should have been practiced. Without
emotional intelligence, a person cannot manage the expectations of workers and reduce work
complexities. Brittney may not be able to lead the team because she does not practice empathy and
care to manage the needs of others (“Leader traits, motives, and characteristics,” 2019). Her lack of
concerns towards others a question mark on her leadership.
2. Discuss Brittany’s warmth and enthusiasm as a leader. How would you rate her
in this category and whyagain be specific in your analysis.
Answer- She does not show the warmth factor in her leadership towards others more often. She has
considered Jeff request because he asked her to grant a leave that was based on five two day pieces
leave. But she did not permit Sid to take leave. She also passed a personal remark to Katie. These
instances suggest that she was not showing the warmth factor in her personality. As far as enthusiasm
is concerned to achieve work objectives, she fairly scores because she wants employees to work more
to achieve targets. As the competition is intense and profit is thin, she wants every employee to work
hard and her willingness to receive assistance from marketing specialists to make a strategic plan for
right merchandise in the company also reveals her enthusiasm to achieve business objectives.
3. Discuss the action by Derek that is needed to improve Brittany’s leadership
effectivenessgive at least 3 examples for Derek to implement with Brittany.
Explanation- Answer- The action Derek requires to improve Britney leadership skills are
mentioned. he should ask to improve emotional intelligence capacity by improving her listening
ability. He should also suggest Brittney promote more communication and self-disclosure practice to
learn her own strengths and weaknesses from her employees. another action that Derek should take is
to ask Brittney to practice collaborative management practices and consider the suggestions made by
employees to improve organizational efficiencies. These actions can definitely assist Brittney to
improve her leadership.

Answer:
This Ted talk was surprisingly interesting and it directly caught my attention when the
speaker Dan Pink went into several studies showing that incentives in cognitive tasks,
tend to lead to worse performance. He brings up time and time again, how this concept
goes against our notions of common sense. Personally, before this video, I was
adamant that better results required some form of a carrot or a stick. However, after
Dan references many studies done by both American Economists and UK Economists,
