QUAIL BREEDER DIETS ON EGG YOLK PIGMENTATION
INTRODUCTION
Quails are moderate sized birds belonging to the order Galliformes of the Phasianidae
family. Among the different genera of the quails worldwide, the most utilized
representative in egg production is viewed as the Japanese quail (Coturnix coturnix
japónica). Japanese quails are transitory game birds. Since the domestication of Japanese
quail during the most recent couple of many years, they have been utilized broadly for
production purposes. The Japanese quails have been additionally utilized broadly as a
model species in research on poultry breeding and genetics of development characteristics
(Goussi, 2011).
Breeding quail and quail egg industrial production as a result of the great healthy
benefit of these products has been fostering these years. Considering about the popularity
and economical production, further advancement later on is anticipated. To plan and
effective utilization of the equipment for transportation, detachment, packaging and
storage, the It is of great importance to study the factors which are affecting these
properties. Strength of the shell is a significant factor in assurance of quail egg quality.
Quail egg shell strength relies upon a few factors including explicit gravity, egg weight and
volume, shell thickness, weight and level of shell, hardness, breaking force, breaking
energy, egg surface, cultivating conditions, type and species of birds, nutrition and
geometric attributes of eggs. (Mousareza, 2016) Quail eggs are more and more approved
for consumers because they bring many benefits to the human body. Therefore, quails
breeding for eggs production have become a very profitable business (Oprean et. Al,
2010).
Carotenoids have consistently been important for the daily diet of animals and
humans. With the improvement of advanced animal nutrition, the industry made
instruments to formulate their feed at the best expenses to give animals with required
nutrients. Carotenoids are included for the feed as a feature of the nutrients that help animal
health, just as product quality (Amaya et. al, 2014).
In many animals, during the accumulation of carotenoids from the diet the colors are
often masked or modified by the presence of carotenoproteins, which can give different
hues of green, red, blue and purple. Carotenoids are mostly concentrated in fatty tissues
such as internal fat and egg yolk in terrestrial animals (Amaya et. al, 2014). However, the
result of the said study need to explore other possibilities is considered. Thus, this study is
proposed.
Objective of the Study
The study will be conducted to determine the effects of different levels of carotenoids
in quail breeder diets on egg yolk pigmentation.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study will be focused on the effects of carotenoids on egg yolk pigmentation, feed
conversion ratio, mortality rate and income over feed and quail cost.
Time and Place of the Study
The study will be conducted at Sitio Lusok, Barangay Basag, T’boli, South Cotabato
from September to October 2021

The avian egg is a significant source of nutrients required for the developing embryo
and also a valuable material for the investigation of fundamental physiological processes.
Non-table eggs are those produced from avian species that are not coordinated to food
market. Their utilization is restricted to the species propagation, for research purposes and,
less significantly, for other industrial applications (Goussi, 2011).
Quail eggs are smaller than chicken eggs but contain more fat, protein, iron, riboflavin,
and vitamin B12 by weight. However, they’re also more expensive and harder to find than
chicken eggs. It contains antioxidants that may help treat symptoms of allergic rhinitis and
eosinophilic esophagitis. Still, more research is needed. (Shoemaker, 2020).
Japanese quail are hardy birds that thrive in small cages and are inexpensive to keep.
