The Violent Storm in King Lear
“Blow, winds, and crack your cheeks! Rage, blow! / You cataracts
and hurricanoes, spout / Till you have drench’d our steeples, drown’d
the cocks!” (III.ii.1-3).
Lear’s vision of living in an e.ulgent and harmonious world as the
king of Britain, a man of great power and authority, first shatters when
he images himself betrayed by his most beloved daughter, Cordelia.
