Title: Sight
I wondered that the title’s real meaning while I read the book. Actually, I did not totally
understand the real phrase ‘the ties that bind’ meaning but I know that title gives us many
lessons. When people were going through American Civil War from 1861 to 1865, people
were struggling to be independent from the American slavery. Of course, antislavery
people did not need cheaper black slavers anymore because north area already developed
manufacturing industry. They were not humanitarians and they were interested in making
money. In contrast, south area was less growing than north. So, proslavery people wanted
to get cheaper labor. Actually, they needed to gain labor at no cost under the slavery rules.
That is similar to Korea and Japan relationship which is called with phrase ‘the ties that
bind’. When Korean was in the Japanese colonial period, Korean tired under the severe
Japan. Many people turned coat and became pro-Japanese towards the end of Japanese
colonization era of Korea. During the Japanese occupation, collaborators lived high on the
hog in exchange for betraying their own people. The people were demanding that
pro-Japanese collaborators be investigated and punished. However, when the colonization
