Introduction
The demand for efficiency of making valuable product for getting income of organizations
is more necessary in common difficult situations of economics today. Because of this, the
reforming of organizations or production processes is one of most important steps to help
organizations or manufactory solving problems. Taylorism, which is introduced by the
book Introduction To Management (RMIT University 2012), has showed classical
approach, such as the ways is stated above, to work organization and is called scientific
management by modern economics. It provided methods which focusing on management
practices for current variety fields. This essay will demonstrate critically some main points
of how the theories affect to contemporary economics especially in Vietnam.
Understanding of theory
Scientific management, which is also known as Taylorism, is found by Frederick Winslow
Taylor (1856-1915). It is defined as a logical method that try to discover for dividing work
into minute and standardize process through fragmentation and separation of tasks,
systematic analysis of skills, gestures, and tasks; and to plan scientifically the best way of
performing any task (Jean,D 2005, p.1439-1452).In addiction, Macmillan(2012) stated that
Taylorism is process of researching and separating task into smallest unit elements along
with standardizing those elements to gain maximum efficiency. Basing on two of
definitions above, it is easily realize that Taylor’s theory strongly focus on the role of
manager and the scientific calculation in tasks beside major principles.
According to Hans,P(2002), the first key principle of Taylorism was separation of labour
procedures from their skills. The manager should have responsibility to collect good
enough information, knowledge and experiences then specialize in work by classifying,
tabulating, and reducing these tools to rules, laws, and formulae. The next major principle
was the real role of workers. The workers would not independent perform from their task.
The management would introduce exactly how to process, how to making element of
product in specific time. The context in which these principles are located is logistical
streamlining and standardization of components’ (Hans,P 2002). The final principle stated
about the management should carefully calculate and evaluate the distance between
processes and movement of workers to minimize time to complete tasks.
Taylorism has been applied in wide of field by management and even government because
of positive reasons which it provided. Beside these positive, there were many negative
aspects would direct or indirect affect to companies or organizations.
One of advantaged aspects is improving on not only quantity of productivity but also
quality of productions. For example, the productivity of producing iron for rail cars rapidly
