The Tale of the Shipwrecked Sailor (From the Snake’s Perspective)
I suddenly felt a presence on my island home that I had not felt in a very long
time. It was a young man, a sailor by the looks of it, carried here from a shipwreck. Why
did he come to this particular place and what would he do in order to survive? I
observed him from afar waiting to see what he would do and then plan my actions
accordingly. He ate his fill of all the magnificent fruit the island provided for him. But
then, to my surprise, he set aside some food to burn an offering to the gods. He did not
know how long he might be stranded or if he would ever be rescued, yet he still made
an offering. I thought to myself that he has great respect for the gods and therefore I
have decided to show respect for him as well. The burning from the offering filled the air
with smoke, but I decided to make an even grander entrance, just so he knew exactly
what I was. The full thunder and earth shaking effects, I saw that he covered his face
but I did not want him to be so scared he missed the spectacle. As I slithered toward
him, I did not wish for him to fear me, but I was well aware that a regular human would
turn around and run away scared for their life. Still, something told me that this one was
