revolutionized the audio industry. It is the story of Amar Bose, the son of an Indian
immigrant, who channeled his knowledge and love for electronics into creating unique
and high-quality sound systems.
Born in 1929 in Philadelphia, Amar Bose’s father had emigrated from India and was
involved in importing electronics. From an early age, Amar showed a keen interest in
electronics, building radios by the age of 13. He pursued his education at MIT, earning a
doctorate in electrical engineering.
In the 1950s, while studying at MIT, Amar Bose purchased a high-end stereo system. He
was disappointed with the system’s sound quality, which he felt did not accurately
reproduce the sound of live music. This sparked a desire in him to create a better sound
system that would deliver a more realistic musical experience.
Bose embarked on research and experimentation in the eld of psychoacoustics. He
discovered that room acoustics signicantly inuenced sound perception and that
traditional speakers failed to distribute sound correctly in space. Based on these ndings,
