Week One
Feminism is such a strongly talked about topic, and in the article “Studying
Women” I found it quite interesting, and frustrating, that women have worked so hard to
get where they are today but still are not treated as equally as men. Women use to be
the spouse that stayed home all day to cook, clean, and take care of the children. Now,
women work their way up the scale to accomplish more in life than just being a stay at
home mother. Personally, I find it empowering to see women work as hard as they can
to accomplish their goals. This shows dedication, especially knowing that it is a dog eat
dog world. Yet, men are still overcoming women while getting paid more by doing the
same job. It saddens me to know that two hard working employees, who do the same
kind of work, are being paid differently based on their gender. Both genders should be
treated equally, but it seems as though women will always be treated differently.
I have to admit that this is my first class where I will be learning in depth what
feminism is all about. I found it compelling that being a feminist can be looked at as a
good thing and as a bad thing, but I never realized there are so many types of feminism.
I understand that stigma comes with most things in life, and that people are going to
have differing opinions, however, it seems that most people who are criticizing feminists
