Research Essay Draft #1
-Add fear or myth or rumor that cell phones may at this extent be damaging to our
health
Mobile devices, also known as cell phones, play a huge role in our everyday life.
If you are in a public place, take a glance around, you will notice that almost everyone
will have a cell phone in their possession. Since 2000, the amount of cell phone users
has almost tripled. In that same year, the amount of cell phone users in the United
States was only 110 million. Moreover, as of 2014, the amount of cell phone users in
the world was 5 billion, and this number is only rapidly growing every year. Technology
is constantly enhancing, making cell phones better every year, which in turn
increasingly makes cell phones an even more desirable possession.
Since cell phones are so prevalent in our everyday life, it is important to know if
cell phones will have any long-term damaging effects on our health. In this research
essay, I will be presenting the following questions: Are cellphones damaging to people's
health? Are people more exposed to radiation when talking on the phone or when
browsing the internet? Is being connected to WIFI exposing people to more or less
radiation than being connected on cellular LTE? I choose to do my research essay on
this topic because of the prevalence, as well as, relevance that cell phones have in

today’s day and age. The overall safety of cell phones is a highly controversial topic, so
I wanted to explore scientific research and find the answer backed up by extensive
research to this question.
According to In May 2016, researchers at the National Toxicology Program
(NTP)
released partial results from their $25 million study, which tested exposing rats to high
levels of radiofrequency waves, simulating high-level exposure to cell phones. The
researchers found that as the thousands of rats in the new study were exposed to
greater intensities of RF radiation, more of them developed rare forms of brain and
heart cancer that could not be easily explained away, exhibiting a direct doseresponse
relationship. Overall, the incidence of these rare tumors was still relatively low, which
