The 2007 to 2008 economic recession is the most recent global economic crisis. The
collapse of the Lehman Brothers, a global bank, at the time evidences the role international
finance systems played before the crisis hit. After the recession hit America, it was further
accelerated to the rest of the world. The spread to the rest of the world was highly attributed
to the credit markets and international financial institutions such as the IMF and the World
Bank. The decisions, practices and policies adopted by these international financial
institutions once again serve as proof of the contribution these institutions made to the spread
