The Results Lens
The second Ethical Lens is the Results Lens. This lens focuses on decisions that have
positive results and good endings. An ethical act in this lens is to create the greatest
happiness for the greatest number of people. Individuals act from point of empathy to
harmonize their goals with that of others, insure satisfaction of many individuals.
Questions for determining right action:
•Goals – achieve your goals by keeping other well-being in mind.
•Greatest Good – the decision will benefits the greater number involved
•Ideal goals – the decision must promote or tend to promote those goals which are
part of human happiness
•Harmonized goals – the decision for individuals must be in harmony with other in
the community
•Responsible choice and creative change – the decision must support responsible
choices and move toward creative change
Values that take priority in this lens:
•Maximizing satisfaction – need to focus on working to maximize the satisfaction of
all the organization’s stakeholders.
•Efficiency – achieve the organization goals as efficiently as possible by consuming
as few resources as possible by insuring minimizing the external costs to others.
•Loyalty – decisions should always have the best interest of the organization in
mind, and not jeopardize the organizations
•Avoid conflict of interest – decisions should keep individuals goals in line with
organizational to avoid conflict
