The Relationship between Personality and Intelligence
When looking at personality and intelligence we often think of characteristics to describe them.
In this case many people who are neat, organized, on time all the time, seem smart, this classified
as a type A personality. There is also type B personality which is someone who is disorganized,
passive, relaxed, and just goes with whatever happens, both stereotype everyone in the world
because a person is either one or the other, but the truth is we don't who will classified as
intelligent through just one typing we have to look at all types of intelligence and personality
facts to realize this. Intelligence and Personality have been studied over the years in an attempt
to correlate the two. Personality types are developed in many different aspects and identified in
one’s upbringing and or experiences while intelligence can be attributed to learning ability, brain
function, memorization and retention. Over the years we have attempted to determine one’s

which attempts to target one’s personality into one of sixteen types. As such there are
intelligence tests such as IQ tests or aptitude tests which attempt to determine one’s intelligence

and or how well one will do in school. For example, the SAT, the LSAT and the MCAT are all
tests that try to provide a prediction based on a score how successful one may be in college, law
school or medical school. It was not until recent years that we started looking at the relationship
of personality and intelligence when Carl Jung and Isabel Myers-Briggs attempted to relate
personality and intelligence by looking at the personality types when comparing their GPA’s,
SAT’s and High School Grade Percentiles. In order to determine if personality and intelligence
are truly related, we must first understand what they are.
Personality is defined as the combination of characteristics or qualities that form an individual’s
distinctive character. Many things must be accounted for when determining the meaning of
personality, we only started to really understand how to classify and describe ourselves in the last
