The Power of the American Media
One who has the information, has the power. The immense power of the mass media was
recognized when their era began. What has earlier been only newspapers, now has
multiplied in different kind of media through which the information can be transmitted –
newspapers, blogs, TV programs, social networks. The American media is well-developed
and trusted, which yields a great power to those who own it. There are many manipulative
techniques which allow some generally truthful information to be presented in such a way
that it would unite or disunite the public, thus producing the designed effect. Needless to
say, in the nowadays world of the media variety it is a must for every thinking citizen to
double-check the information they get through the media by verifying its credibility and
looking for its representation in the other sources. The informational wars are the reality of
the latest times. The media coverage of some topic can unite the Americans to stand for the
right thing, however it can also disunite them by promoting diverse and even conflicting
opinions.
The mass media are generally a very powerful tool in achieving political objectives. The
same concerns manipulating the public opinion in order to produce the necessary effect
during voting campaigns. It is no secret that the media are the most powerful tool in voting
campaigns. The opportunity to spread the information fast among broad masses of
population gives a way to numerous techniques – from the relatively innocent, such as
media coverage of the favored candidate, to more dirty political tricks, like exposing the
dirty past of the political adversaries or even making up stories to ruin their reputation.
