What are the salient points discussed by McCoy and McFarland on their articles and what did you
learned or realizations about it?
According to McFarland on the reading in the first paragraph, that we have 77 number of dialects,
but he says that they aren’t a dialect but separate languages. Yes, we all know here in the Philippines they
are so many dialects, I just need to clarify because McFarland did not clarify if the dialects are language or
not, so this salient point focused only about the statement and we need to clarify, state the fact and
realization if the number of dialects isn’t dialect or language. In this country there is no native language
but there are 187 separate languages but not all these are dialects. Here in the Philippines, the four of are
totally extinct. The residual 183, the 175 are indigenous in total, and the other 8 are non-indigenous.
