The role of women began changing in the 1920’s, also known as the “Roaring
Twenties”. Women started changing the way they dressed and acted, and expanded
the limits that society set.
Before the 1920’s, women always wore long skirts and corsets because society
deemed that “proper”. Early in the 1920’s women’s dress length became shorter and
many different styles arose such as the ones seen in the fashion magazines like Art-
Gout-Beaut. New dance styles also made a debut which caused the change in clothing
styles. The newer styles allowed for more movement for the new dance moves unlike
the long, heavy skirts and corsets. A few famous dance moves from this time include:
