The Glass Menagerie
The Glass Menagerie is a play in which Tom Wingfield recalls a memory from
past. This is particularly interesting because the memories and thoughts that one tends
to dwell on, are the ones which haunt them, because they are the ones in which we are
our worst selves. Tom gives the impression that this is a memory he often looks back
upon. Throughout the play Tom struggles with choosing to do what he wants and
choosing to do what is best for his family. Williams use the dialog, imagery, plot, setting,
and stage direction to highlight toms struggle.
Tom’s unhappiness at his current situations is clear, we can see it when he talks
about the magic show where he says “But the wonderfullest trick of all was the coffin
