Long ago, large areas of open lands were used to grow wheat, barley and other crops.
However, there are currently less lands for farming as huge portions of lands are being
cleared daily for construction of modern-day buildings, offices and residential areas to
support the demand of the growing human population. The current global economic crisis
has reduced a country’s dependence on imported goods and services as the manufacturing
of domestic produce is the better option to overcome the crisis. Therefore, the demand for
domestically-produced vegetation and crops will initiate the development of multi-storey
city based vertical farms in the future. The growing interest in hydroponically-fed food
being grown offer the potential to dramatically increase farm yield and reduce
