worldviews and myths that underlie them
• Foundational Assumptions of Futurist:
Ray Amara, a former president of the Institute for the Future once suggested that there
are three fundamental premises upon which the futures based.
1. The future is not predetermined.
2. The future is not predictable.
3. Future outcomes can be influenced by our choices in the present. ( future ma jo

• Nature of Futures Studies:
1. Is Futures Studies an art or science.
2. In general, it can be considered as a branch of the social sciences and parallel to
the field of history.
3. In the same way that history studies the past, futures studies considers the future.
4. Futures studies seek to understand what is likely to continue and what could
change?
5. Part of the discipline seeks a systematic and pattern-based understanding of past
and present, for determining the likelihood of future events and trends

• NEED OF FUTURES STUDIES :
1. The growth of futures studies is a result of the desire of government and businesses to
find information that can aid in making better policy.

3. Through questioning the future, emerging issues analysis, and creation of alternative
