Executive Summary
The purpose of the report is using the example of The Fred Hollows Foundation to
identify, discuss and evaluate the two management functions which are planning and
leading for how managing effectively across national borders. The Fred Hollows
Foundation is a non-profitable organisation that assists people who are suffering vision
problems around the world. The value of the organisation is to eradicate preventable
blindness in the world. After analyzing this example, it is found that planning and leading
of management functions are taking vital places to manage across national borders
effectively. Planning which is a multifaceted process, involves defining goals and
establishing oranisational strategies. Planning which is the first stage of management
function, if planning is unsuccessful, the following stages will be influenced and results in
inefficient management. In addition, Leading is the process of requiring managers to
motivate subordinates. If managers cannot communicate with people and work as a team,
the objectives may not be achieved because leaders contribute a maximum of 20% to
organisational success, while followers contribute an estimated 80% to the success of the
organisations. It can show that how the important of leading and motivation are.
In conclusion, in some extend, planning and leading are indispensable and managers
cannot ignore and should perform efficiently. To recommend managing across national
borders effectively, managers should be aware of the culture while planning the objectives
and play respect with other culture while leading different cultural background people.
