The film Experimenter focused much on the topic of Stanley Milgram’s 1961 experiment
conducted at Yale University. The experiment is a famous and well-known one that
shined light on the profound influence of authority figures. This film has themes that are
related to topics that we have learned so far in this class. These themes include, social
psychology, conformity, obedience, and altruism.
The theme of the movie or experiment was a focus on social psychology. Social
psychology is the study of how people’s behaviors and thoughts are influenced by
others around them. We learned a lot about social psychology as a whole in chapter 11,
so the movie had a strong relevance to our course material.
