The Endangerment of Animals Due to Global Warming
Over the las century, humans have caused a traumatic immense of warm to the
environment. Coral reefs are beginning to disappear, droughts in some areas, wildfire rates are
rising, severe heat waves, and colder winters are just some factors that do not only affect us but
also the animals and their natural habitats. We were the cause the to this problem, however,
without the systems that we have, the economy, governments, and society would rapidly start to
fall apart. It is precisely these systems that keep the flow of day-to-day life, however, every
minute that passes thousands of animals and ecosystems are being killed.
There are many ways to help aid this problem; NASA and other related organizations
have already started to look for life in another planet, we could eliminate the toxic fumes that are
trapped in the ozone which cause temperatures to rise, we could stop using land which gives
habitat to thousands of species such as tropical forests, oceans, etc. we could also stop killing
millions of livestock a year. These factors may seem small to some but adding them up for
centuries causes catastrophic damage to our own home. Furthermore, an ecologist at the
University of Arizona, John Weins, says the “unless humans make drastic cuts in fossil fuel
consumption [temperature] could rise by another 4°C” (Radford). These warm conditions affect
animal and plant species heavily, causing them to become locally extinct. Moreover, this could
create a chain reaction. Producers such as plants and bacteria which contain rich nutrients will
become extinct/rare which causes the primary consumers such as little rodents to also become
locally extinct due to the lack of food and the increase in temperature. Finally, the secondary and
tertiary consumers will be affected by these changes and over time that bio ecosystem will all
become extinct because of global warming.
Professor Weins “took a closer look at the evidence delivered by studies of 716 animals
and 260 plants in Asia, Europe, Madagascar, Oceania and North and South America, research
suggested that 545 of the 716 species were affected by the temperature rise.
Even though species are being dragged out of their niche and are obligated to look for
better terrain to live in, they have a simple and diverse way in response. The first one is
undergoing niche shifts, which is adapting to a new niche, this will take several years and
