The End of In-Door Suspension: A Proposal
Description of Problem: Students in in-door suspension suffer while doing their time in
in-door suspension. The state of Florida has called in-door suspension “SCSI”. SCSI stands for
School Center for Special Instruction and these students that get in SCSI usually stay in the
system. This is an issue because schools have misguided students suffering mentally,
academically etc. by never getting out of the system. While in the constant perpetual in-and-out
of in school suspension, they miss out on classes that are important. Advanced Placement,
International Baccalaureate and Dual Enrollment students can be sent to in-door suspension
because their parents or guardians make them late everyday, or even certain students have to take
care of siblings making them tardy everyday. Some teachers don’t excuse the student for getting
SCSI and give them F’s in their gradebook. This extremely affects their grades especially if they
