Introduction
The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games Ltd
(LOCOG) is an organisation that came into existence in 2005, after London won the bid to
host the 2012 Olympics. LOCOG is responsible for delivering the best and most
memorable experience in a short space of time. The 2012 Olympics will be visited by
people from all over the world, from different cultures, ethnicity, people who speak
different languages. Therefore, diversity will be crucial for LOCOG.
Diversity refers to the differences among people, “it is any attribute that another person
may use to detect individual differences" (Williams&O’Riely,1998,p.81) these differences
include race, ethnicity, age, gender, disability, and sexual orientation. These differences
can have its benefits and problems for the organisations. Some of these differences are
visible such as colour, gender and some are invisible such as educational background,
sexual orientation and social class.

What is diversity?
Diversity means differences and can include age, gender, race, religion and social class. A
diverse workforce comprises a multitude of beliefs, understandings, values, and ways of
viewing the world" (Managing Diversity, 2011).
Why the need for diversity?
The world is becoming smaller every day and in order to compete on a global level
diversity is vital. A change in demographics creates a necessity for companies to embrace a
diverse work force. Diversity is essential for organizations in order to reflect the customers
