The Effects of Diversity in Communication

Abstract
“Covid-19 has impacted many people in different ways, one of the biggest is the
way we communicate with each other especially when it comes to diversity and
communication. There are many ways in which diversity can be effective in
communication. Communication is the way we send messages to one another; it
may be verbal or non-verbal. To destroy cultural barriers and language barriers
society needs to be diverse and inclusive in situations. Inclusion and diversity are
needed to have better communication within conversations, politics, companies,
and businesses. This research is about why we need to be diverse in
communication and how we can be diverse in communication. When researching
there has been a spotlight on diversity and inclusion in the world, and a lot of
people aren’t that inclusive or understanding of other cultures. For people to
become comfortable and to get society to a point of inclusion and diversity, people
need to understand the need for inclusion.”

In the world, we know there are many different forms of communication.
Most people use it daily and don’t realize that it’s a form of communication so, to
understand that there are different forms of communication you need to know what
communication is. Communication is an exchange of messages whether it is
through body language, facial expressions, or verbally. Diversity involving
communication is something that this world experiences almost all the time.
Diversity in communications is more about recognizing that different people have
unique points of view and life experiences based on their backgrounds. People of
different cultures have different ways of communicating; some see certain things
another culture sees as normal as an insult. Cultural diversity has many different
components that make it, there are cultural barriers, language barriers, cultural
norms, ideologies, and many more. Language makes communication special
because some languages have many words for one meaning, but it can also have
the same word as another language with a completely different meaning.
Therefore, building a language barrier can make things confusing and a
language barrier is when a message is trying to be sent through verbal means but
the receiver isn’t able to receive the message properly or misinterprets the
message. This is a very common problem in the health field because some nurses
and doctors are limited in the languages they know. Some of these nurses and
doctors encounter people of different backgrounds and they can’t speak the same

language as the person who is treating them so, which leads to misunderstanding or
misinterpretation. There are various types of language barriers. Language barriers
are about the things challenges people or groups face when speaking different
languages and dialects. It can also include misunderstandings and
misinterpretations that come from the lack of clarification when speaking to one
another. These barriers are found in verbal, non-verbal, and communication.
