The article I decided to write about is titled “The
Declining Labor Force Participation Rate: Why This Trend Should
Be Taken Seriously,” by AJ Francia published April 18, 2013. The
article takes on several different aspects of the labor

participation rate, and also discusses different angles of why
the falling of the American labor force participation rate may
not be a good thing.
First and foremost, the author discusses what the
participation rate actually is: the percentage of working age
people (between 16 and 65 years old) who are either working or
searching for work. The author goes on to deliberate between
whether the decrease is due to people coming into a better
situation in their lives or that they just give up on the idea of
working in order to pursue other avenues of life. This becomes
the working theme of the remainder of the article.
