Beethoven’s Ninth
Classical Concert Report
Raisa Bunyamin
This Saturday (December 10th), I went to the Copley Symphony Hall to watch
Ives’ Three Places in New England and Beethoven’s Symphony No.9. The concert
started at 8PM, and Edo de Waart was the conductor of the night. Erin Wall was
soprano, Renee Tatum mezzo soprano, Barry Banks the tenor, and Nathan Berg the
bass.
The concert started with Ives’ three-movement Three Places in New England.
The first movement, “The Saint-Gaudens in Boston Common”, sounds atonal to me,
and I can also hear some of the US patriotic tunes embedded in the movement. I could
hear and identify the “The Battle Cry of Freedom”.
