The Cousin of Sleep, The Bringer of Peace
Death is a common occurrence in all forms of literature and is found often in late
18th and early 19th century British literature. What I find more interesting than death itself
is how other characters in stories react, justify, and evolve their thoughts about death
concerning loved ones and sometimes even themselves. Although death is usually regarded
as an unfortunate and sad moment, not all stories portray it that way. Some stories use it in
a way to show an end of suffering or even as a way for loved ones to always be with each
