The Birth of a Word
What Deb Roy did is really amazing and cool to think about. It does help you get those
great moments you could not always capture on video. Although on the other hand it is kind of
weird to me. I am not sure if I want my whole child’s life recorded for research. Yes, that is his
and his wife’s choice but it just is strange to me why you would video all that. I did like the part
about the chart of all the words his son had learn and the 3D visual of his house with the peaks
of where each word was used the most. All of that is fantastic and eye opening to look at
through another point of view, for example his ceiling. Seeing everything from his ceiling was
great, but you do not have any privacy. You also do not really have to enjoy those moment then
because they are all on video for you to watch again and again. I just do not think that it is as
great as it would be if the parents cherish the moments for themselves.
