The Big Short gives its audience an insight into one of the many causes of the financial
crisis, as a result of the burst of the housing bubble. The movie showed that Greed was a major
contributor, which ultimately led to severe consequences for both the unsuspecting victims and
firms that masterminded the actual plans. The main character, Michael Burry, played by
Christian Bale, discovered a way to capitalize on the vulnerability of subprime mortgages, thus
profiting significantly from their crumble. Michael contacted several fund managers, presenting
them with this scheme and the potential rewards that could be garnered from such investments.
He analyzed the securities and determined that there was a way to win, before the markets
crashed. This crash was one of the worst in American history.
