Defined as the variety of life present in
an ecosystem
It is important in how society benefits
from it.

Philippine Biodiversity
The Philippines is one of 18 mega-biodiverse countries of the
world, containing twothirds of the earth’s biodiversity and
between 70% and 80% of the world’s plant and animal
species.
It ranks fifth in the number of plant species and maintains
5% of the world’s flora.
It has 7.2 million ha of forest ecosystems, comprising
approximately 24% of the total land area.

It refers to the variations among organisms of
the same species.
These variations are usually passed down
from parents to offspring.
