The Advancement of Technology: What Are Our Priorities?
Since the invention of the Internet, technology has been advancing so rapidly it seems as
though society can hardly keep up. We are living in a technologically advanced era, and
the future effects of technology are quite uncertain to us. This can seem scary at times if
we let technology take over our lives, but we all have the personal choice to choose which
aspects of technology we will employ and where we find technology useful or
unnecessary.
Society is often unaware of the technological inventions that are actually benefiting
humanity on a large scale, other than the countless social media applications. In the
medical world some of the newest inventions that are aiding people include: The
Parkinson’s Kinetigraph; a new therapy system for people with Parkinsons, The KNFB
Reader; a smartphone app that allows blind people to listen to a printed text, steady
improvements in hearing aid technology and even mechanical implants to help aid organ
functions. The only disadvantage to so much new technology is the price. It takes a long
time before technology becomes affordable for the public, let alone those in need. What
really needs to change is the employment of technology worldwide. Why should a child in
a third world country need a cellular device when it doesn’t even have access to clean
drinking water?
