In Suzanne Britts, “That Lean and Hungry Look” she dissects the differences between fat
and thin people. Throughout the text Britts states many differences between the two in a very
humorous tone as well, but the true meaning of these differences have absolutely nothing to do
with weight but personality traits and how you were raised. The words Fat and Thin to me
represent the two traits; uptight and easygoing. “Thin people believe in logic. Fat people see all
sides” (181) This quote is a main reason I correlated Thin to uptight and Fat to easygoing, When
Britts compared the two she wasn’t referring to weight whatsoever, but more she is comparing
the traits.
Fat and Thin are somewhat body shaming words. I don’t think Britts wanted the reader to
take it in that context instead she uses a very humorous tone throughout the reading. From the
reader’s perspective Britts characterizes fat people being what i’d call the life of the party
