THANK YOU FOR SMOKING FILM REVIEW
“Thank you for smoking” is a film that characterizes the relationship between the media
and PR practitioners as an ongoing battle between the truth and the lies of the industry. The film,
through the use of a young journalist, paints the picture that the media is only fighting to find the
truth about the big corporations that are determined to lie to the general public about the side
effects of using their product. The journalist though deceiving in her methods of gathering
information asked hard questions that were predesigned to appear innocent in nature, but in truth
only allows the PR representative of this company to be seen in a negative light. For a common
viewer however the journalist is the hero for trying to find the “truth”.
The PR practitioner is designed to appear as if he is trying to conceal the truth behind
pretty wording and carefully constructed speeches that are meant to deceive the public. The film
