The Issue of Texting while Driving
The issue of using mobile phone while driving has led unfortunate accidents that have
resulted in injury, loss of life and damages to property. In spite of the dangers involved, people
still find themselves engaging in this risky behavior. This has prompted certain people such as
New York Times columnist Matt Richtel to argue in favor of technological interventions:
companies that produce the mobile phones can produce and distribute technology aimed at
preventing these behaviors altogether. However, I will go a step further and argue that the issue
goes beyond to one of simple technological lockouts to one of psychological discipline.
Specifically, people must inform themselves of the dangers of using phones while driving,
psychologically trained to discipline themselves while driving and supervised until they have
