Texas Senate
Sylvia Garcia is a member of the Texas senate and represents district 6, she is part of the
democratic party.Sylvia R. Garcia first began her journey by obtaining a bachelors degree in Social Work
at the Texas Women’s University. She continued her education at the Thurgood Marshall School of Law,
graduated with her Doctor in Jurisprudence. After receiving her Doctor from Thurgood she began her
work experience as a Judge of the Houston municipal court in the 1980’s. She then moved up to city
controller in the year of 1988. Sylvia R. Garcia was first elected to the Harris County Commissioners
Court in the year of 2002. Her last election was march of 2013 into the State Senate and will look to re
election in the year of 2018.
Paul Bettencourt is a member of the Texas senate and represents district 7, he is part of the
republican party. Paul Bettencourt first began his journey by obtaining a bachelors of science from the
University of Texas A&M. Bettencourt also studied industrial distribution at the school of Engineering.
He began his professional experience as a Tax Assessor-Collector of Harris County. Paul Bettencourt was
first elected to office in the year of January 2015. He succeeded Dan Patrick of Houston, TX. There was
not any current information discussing his past as far as earlier elections.
