Question 1: For each position that Terry is considering, what types of information systems
knowledge do you think Terry would need?
1. If Terry decided to return to ICG as a consultant, he would be traveling four days
out of the week and would also have the luxury of having the choice to work from
home or in his office on the 5th day each week. For this job specifically, Terry
would need to understand programming, various marketing strategies, as well as
fully understand the different internet abilities and capabilities to be successful. In
order to deal with e-commerce and web based programming, Terry will also have to
be able to communicate and listen to customers’ needs to be able to fulfill the
requirements and expectations of the clients to eventually be able to present the
final product to software developers.
2. If Terry decides to work for InfoMicro as the VP of Marketing, it is crucial for
Terry to be knowledgeable in website development as well as other web
applications that can be used for communication purposes. It is also very important
for Terry to be knowledgeable in planning, creating, communicating and most
importantly being able to deliver a marketing strategy that will play a vital role in
the overall success of the company. By understanding customers’ needs and
expectations, Terry will be able to identify his niche target market and hopefully
surpass the other company that has the first mover advantage. In order to compete
within the market, Terry will have to assess his competitor’s strengths and
weaknesses and capitalize on their weaknesses to gain the market share.
3. In the case that Terry decides to join the marketing department as a manager that is
responsible for new customer development at MFG, it will be crucial for Terry to
have knowledge in creativity and communication in order to provide interactive
mechanisms such as web pages that customers will be pleased with. Because
managers have a great deal of responsibility, Terry will also need to be confident,
flexible, and willing to listen to customers to ensure that the smallest details are
