Relationship between Prospero and Miranda:
Miranda: “had I not five or four women once tended me?” [16]
– This shows how Prospero tries to create or fulfill the need of Miranda for not having a
mother, which shows how caring and loving he is with her.
– Miranda cares a lot about Prospero and shows how innocent and caring she is.
Miranda: “oh, my heart bleeds to think O’th ‘teen that I have turned you to.” [18]
– Prospero loves Miranda with all his heart, her smile is what strengthens his spirit
which shows how important Miranda is to Prospero. She allows him to face obstacles
when they were stuck in the middle of the sea.
Prospero: “your smile sustained my spirits against whatever would come our way.”
– Prospero doesn’t only care about Miranda’s wellbeing and safety; he wants to pass
on his knowledge to her and give her the best education he can provide, unlike other
princesses which makes her very special to him as his knowledge and books are very
important to him too.
Prospero: “where I, act as your teacher, have given you a better education than most
princesses get, princesses who have less careful tutors, who spend their time instead on
empty fun. [27]
Relationship between Prospero and Ariel:
Ariel: “Your wish is my command, whatever you want. If you want me to fly, to swim, to
jump into fire…” [29]
– This shows how Ariel is obedient to Prospero and will do anything thing at his command.
Also it shows how much he respects his powers.
