Technology Take Over
Although the electronic age of digital computers began in the 1940’s, it has grown at an
incredible rate of the last 10 years. Although the electronic age of digital computers began in the
1940’s (History of IT, 1), it has grown at an incredible rate of the last 10 years. To put this in
perspective, consider that the smartphones more than 60% of American’s (US Smartphone, 1)
carry in their purses or pockets have more computing power than all of the computers used by
NASA to put the first men on the moon (A Modern Smartphone, 1)! The amazing evolution of
technology has occurred quickly and its impacts span every aspect of American life. However,
not all of the impacts of technology are positive. Of particular concern is how technology may be
adversely affecting one of America’s largest social segments, the middle class. As the utilization
of technology in business, entertainment, and communications grows, it is weakening the middle
class as it eliminates jobs, reduces socialization of the family, and replaces the interactions of
within the workforce.
Does anyone actually remember the last time you saw someone genuinely working hard?
Most people probably could not do anything without technology. Since it has come into our
lives, it seems to have taken a toll on everyone. Everyone seems lost if they do not have some
sort of technology with them. In saying that, people are finding the negative impact of the
advancement of technology. The middle class is failing because of the technological cause

people to lose their jobs, cause less communication within families, and can cause people to not
pay attention to work/school.
The middle class is when you make enough money to where you feel safe financially.
But with technology getting so advanced, it is starting to take peoples jobs. With the jobs off the
market, people have nowhere to go. What do you mean jobs are off the market? Technology now
a day’s have made it possible for robots and machinery take the place of humans.
Not all technology is a bad thing to have around and that is something everyone can
agree on. With the upcoming of the Internet it makes it easier to get access to any and all types of
knowledge out there. Yes, the advancement of technology has made a good impact on the world.
It helps people get work done faster, depending on where you work. Not all technology is a good
thing. You have people out there that does not have a proper education nor have the ability to go
and get one, but they are getting replaced by something much faster and more innovative.
Technology has the power to come and take over any job. It may not be as of now, but in the
future people will be surprised to see how far technology can actually go.
Who would have ever thought that one day they would lose their job to robots? Robots
can do up to one and a half worth of humans jobs per hour. Although the robot is expensive, it
costs a lot less to buy him out than it does to pay one person per year. According to a segment on
60 Minutes called “Are Robots Hurting Job Growth?” robots are in all warehouses over the
country.
A company named KIVA makes the orange robots that are all over the country. Some
are on display in a warehouse in Devens, Massachusetts. They are programmed by algorithms to
tell them how to move, and then there are barcodes on the floor that tell them where they should

go and when. This makes the warehouse workers jobs a lot easier; they do not have to go from
one end of the warehouse to the other. Technology is not always a bad thing.
In Devens, Massachusetts, the robots that are in their warehouse can do up to the
amount of work for one and a half people. By “hiring” these robots, it potentially saves KIVA,
company who sells the robots a lot of money in producing the robots, and the company who buys
the robots a lot of money. Without the robots, the warehouse would have to hire more people and
eventually end up losing money in the future.
When replacing humans with robots, it causes a lot of controversy. You no longer have
that human-to-human contact that you had before. Some would say that they don’t mind not
having human contact because it can be difficult. For examples, with human contact you can
