TECHNOLOGY IN OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT 2
Abstract
Technology has changed the world in our day to day lives and in business. Operations
Management has been greatly impacted by the implementation of technology. Operation
management is the implementation of business practices to build efficiency within an
organization. Technology has opened new doors for organizations to implement these practices
more efficiently. The main two technologies used are hard technology and soft technology. Hard
technology is the physical equipment used to perform tasks, while soft technology is the software
behind hard technology in the modern age. Radio frequency identification tags, or RFID tags, are
basically a computer chip bar code that is used in manufacturing and service processes. These
chips can be placed in a necklace to be worn by people in a retirement home to track where they
are located. Soft technology can be thought of as the software that can be used with hard
