The rapid rise in the popularity of teams in the workplace has been recognized gergerby
students. The ability to function in a team is an important attribute when trying to stand out
among peers.. Those with the ability to work in a team will be more competitive when they
step into a working environment. Moreover, working in a team brings individuals
opportunities to obtain deeper and wider knowledge and helps to enhance
self-understanding and self-confidence. It cultivates and stimulates creativity and critical
thinking which are difficult to get from conversational methods such as reading a textbook,
attending a lecture, or individual writing assignments.(Levin, 2004)
It is important to understand what a team is and how to differentiate it from a group.
Forsyth defined that a group is “two or more individuals who are connected to one another
by social relationships” (Forsyth, 2006, cited in Franz, 2012, p.4). A team is two or more
people who “can be identified by themselves and others as a team within a larger social
system such as an organization”(Stewart et al., 1999, p.3). Team members share
commitments and responsibilities, they deliver value to each other, and they work
interdependently with good collective performance under certain rules.(Katzenbach and
Smith, 1993). Therefore it is important to recognize the difference between teams and
groups . For example, a number of people playing football in the the backyard for exercise
and entertainment cannot be seen as a team, but a group of young men who train regularly,
have different roles, and compete towards a goal such as a championship or a prize would
