Who is teaching your child the moral principles that will eventually govern their
behavior? This question became relevant due to recent studies showing that there is a rising rate
of juvenile crime and increased reports of bullying in schools. According to Lewis, Robinson
and Hays (2011),
A survey on school crime and safety in the United States for the 2007-08 academic year
(National Center for Education Statistics, 2009) reports that bullying occurs daily or at
least once a week in 20.5% of all reporting primary schools and 43.5% of all reporting
middle schools. Feder (2007) emphasizes that bullying was considered a contributing
factor in recent school shooting incidents and should be viewed as a serious public health
problem confronting society. (para. 1)
