SYSTEMS OF ETHICS : PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY 1
I love teaching when the learning in the classroom is tangible: When I can feel it in the
smooth pace of a group discussion or a student’s visible enjoyment in using newly learned
terminology and concepts; when I witness the excitement of students when mastering skills that
“made a difference” or theories that transformed practices and perspectives in their rather young
lives; and where they can make connections to daily activities. All these defines teaching
successes. I make it a habit to reflect on their origins so that I can recreate the conditions for their
reoccurrences on a continuous and steady pace. My philosophy in life is closely knitted to my
teaching philosophy, it is informed by the material I teach, and the lessons I have learned from
personal teaching successes and failures; through observation of previous teachers or by
collaboration with current colleagues.
