Course Description and Objectives:
Spanish 101 is a five credit-beginning course in which you will be acquainted with the Spanish language. This
beginning course emphasizes pronunciation, oral practice, basic grammar of the Spanish language and study of
some of the 21 Spanish speaking countries’ culture and civilization. This class prepares you for the work that you
will be required to do in Spanish 102, so Spanish will be used often during classroom to facilitate and invigorate the
learning of the language.

Students learning Objectives:
The objective of this course is to develop proficiency in Spanish. After successful completion, students will be able to:
a) Assimilate basic grammar rules and vocabulary.
b) Understand and participate in basic conversations about things around them, their families and
friends, daily routine, simple travel needs and the like.
c) Interact in Spanish with native speakers using authentic language.
d) Produce written Spanish in order to be able to write/complete/build basic sentences and paragraphs.
e) Read basic material relating to their needs and begin to understand more abstract reading.
