Course Description
This course introduces the scientific study of language, emphasizing such topics as the organization of grammar
in speakers’ minds, actual language use and change over time, and the relationship between linguistics and other
disciplines. To provide a broad understanding of human languages, the course covers major subfields in
linguistics, such as phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, language acquisition, language variation, and
language change.
