I am applying as the next Student Services Director because I believe that I have the skills
necessary for this position that can benefit AUSA and Andrews as a whole. From what I have
observed, students lose enthusiasm, not because of lack of services or events, but because those
services may not be interesting or relevant to their university experience. I want to challenge this
issue through learning and understanding the students’ different needs and wants. In that way we
can increase school spirit as well as student satisfaction. I also think this position will help me
become a better manager and help develop more skills necessary for my future career in business
management.
My prior leadership experience has given me the communication, community building, and
organizational planning skills this position needs. Being the Vice-President during my senior
year of high school at Crawford Adventist Academy, I helped plan and organize class meetings,
Class Challenge, our College Days trip, and designed the Senior class apparel. In that same year,
I was the head editor for my high school’s yearbook which taught me the importance of
organization, meeting deadlines, and attention to detail.
Outside of school, my extracurricular activities involved sports, my church, and helping my local
community. In Toronto, I played on league volleyball and ultimate frisbee teams and captained a
league basketball team that made it to the championships. Currently, I am a Master Guide in
training for the Maharlika Pathfinder Club; I assist in general club activities for the youth I
enjoy the supervision, team building, and counseling I get to do, especially during survival
campouts. Furthermore, I volunteer with the Mt. Zion Filipino SDA Church’s youth group in a
program called Bread for Bread where we provide bread and literature for people in low-income
areas of our local community.
At Andrews University, I volunteer with AFIA during their events and was one of the lead actors
for the 2015 Pilipino Culture Night. Moreover, during my two years here, I have played
intramural basketball and captained my intramural volleyball team.
